Eurovelo 8 route, also known as The Mediterranean Route, is a 5,888-kilometer-long that passes through 11 different countries. Turkey is one of the 11 countries and 498 km pass through İzmir, Turkey’s third largest city.

The Port of Dikili in the north of İzmir and Çeşme Port, located in the westernmost of the Izmir Peninsula, are the entering points of the route.

Eurovelo 8 Route has 23 world heritage sites, two of them are in Izmir: Pergamon Ancient City and Ephesus Ancient City.

In addition to these two world heritage sites, 15 more ancient cities are located within 498 kilometers:
Atarneus, Pitane, Elaia, Gryneion, Myrina, Kyme, Larissa, Smyrna, Agora, Limantepe, Erythral, Teos, Lebedos, Colophon, Klaros

EUROVELO 13 IRON CURTAIN TRAIL

Turkey is the host of a small but important part of EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail. The itinerary takes part in the northwestern part of the Turkey, along its 240-long border with Bulgaria.

The EuroVelo 13 route, which divide the Europe as east and west, enters our country from the Greece border and leads cyclists to Edirne.

Edirne is the one of the capitals of Ottoman Empire and host the famous and beautiful Selimiye Mosque, the “chef d’oeuvre” of Mimar Sinan, also known as Sinan Agha the Grand Architect”.

EuroVelo 13 then continues through rural landscapes and the city of Kırkareli before crossing into Bulgaria again.
